I started out teaching group classes on a beautiful beach called Hengistbury Head in Dorset, UK. Staying in a beach hut, I put up a sign and each morning, swept the sand and waited to see who would come. What I saw was how many, different people are interested in yoga. They seemed to come for the peaceful, calming feeling. Many hadn’t practiced before. Most didn’t have mats and showed up as they were, with a cuppa and sometimes in their pyjamas. We tried to leave behind the image of yoga we may’ve had and just be there, by the sea. It wasn’t about lycra, or doing it right.
And I think yoga can be for anyone, anywhere.
At the moment the ‘anywhere’ part is trickier but I’m sure we’ll be back at the beach soon.
