Introduction:
Welcome. I thought I would start again by taking us back to the beginning. We’ll draw our attention to what yoga teaches about soul and spirit. There are 3 main texts we’ll be exploring in this series: the Baghavad Gita, The Vedas and The Sutras of Patanjali.
Chapter 2 Verse 20- Baghavad Gita
“The Self is never born and it never dies. It is existing now and it will never cease to exist. It is unborn, eternal, everlasting and most ancient. It is not killed when the body is killed.”
The 2nd Sutra- Patanjali
Sanskrit ‘Yogah Chitta Vritti Nirodahah’- translation : “Yoga is the uniting consciousness of the heart.”
This practice is all about accepting and connecting to our essence, our spirit, our self. Our soul, our infinite being. I’ll use words interchangeably, and hopefully some of them will sit right with you. It’s referring to not just your body/ mind, which are temporary, but what really makes you, you. This eternal Existence, was present before your body was born, it exists throughout the lifetime of your body, and will continue to exist even after your body has disappeared.
Experience yourself as a divine, radiant presence.
“If you think of Russian stacking dolls- Babushka, imagine a bright light burning inside the smallest doll. However, as each doll is placed inside a larger doll, over time the light in the innermost doll is forgotten. If you see the dolls from the outside, you see only one- the outer shell. It is easy to forget that you are so much more than just what you see, that you are the light and that light is radiance, truth and beauty.” Tracee Stanley- Radiant Rest.
